An Omaha woman who pleaded guilty to the brutal rape, kidnapping and assault of another woman apologized to the victim in court Tuesday.

Before Shavontae Green was sentenced, she told the court, "I apologize for all my actions and do take full responsibility and appreciate your time and consideration.”

Her apology didn't prevent a tough sentencing for a crime the state called “brutal” and “horrendous.”

Green's mom did not agree, saying that her daughter made a bad mistake.

"My daughter helps people. She is not this person. So I cannot see why a judge would possibly give her this sentence because of all the lies they put in the paper,” she said.

Led away in handcuffs, Green was sentenced to 35 to 45 years for kidnapping, 20 to 60 months for tampering and 15 to 20 years for assault. She pleaded guilty to three of the six original charges.

Green and another man, Ronald Ford, admitted to kidnapping, torturing and raping a woman whose boyfriend owed them money.

"We're pleased with the sentence. Seventy to 100 years is at least appropriate for what happened to the victim in this case. I think the judge gave an appropriate sentence,” said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.

Ford is expected in court for his sentencing Wednesday.
