LINCOLN, Neb. (KMTV) - As state aid dwindles for the University of Nebraska system, campuses are tightening their purse strings.

University of Nebraska - Lincoln is falling in step with the other universities as the Academic Planning Committee is scheduled to consider budget cut proposals Wednesday.

The school expects to cut more than $8 million in the coming months.

Earlier this year, NU President Hank Bounds said the ax would fall on jobs with a lot of savings also coming from consolidating services and resources across the campuses, reductions in operational costs and position reductions

NU's  budget shortfall totals to about $49 million, but some fear it could be a lot higher.

A UNL spokesperson said the changes would go into effect mid-2018.
