Text scam targeting Columbus-area residents

Police are investigating after they say scammers are sending text messages to Pinnacle Bank customers and non-customers alike.

The Columbus Police Departments says the messages are being sent to random numbers in the Columbus and surrounding area to try and gain personal banking information.

The message looks like this:

“(Pinnacle Bank) We had detected an unauthorized activity . In order to avoid suspension enter personal info [Link]”

Investigators say people are being tricked into entering their information in the fake system provided in the link.

“The Columbus Police Department would like to remind anyone that you should never click on links sent through email or text, as this is a very common form of fraud,” investigators said in a post on Facebook.
