Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made a late-night stop in western Iowa Monday.

The Texas senator spoke to a packed house at Penny's Diner in Missouri Valley.  Voters heard his plans for his first day in office if he is elected.

"If I'm elected president we will have a president who doesn't violate the constitution or doesn't violate the Bill of Rights, but protect the constitution rights of each and every American," he said.

The campaign visit, which was scheduled to start at 10:45 p.m., capped off the first day of a 6-day tour through 28 counties.

"One of the fantastic things about Iowa, that I really appreciate about the first-in-the-nation status, is the men and women of Iowa take very seriously their responsibility to vet the candidates," Cruz said.
