“He told my sister to go in the room, lock the door and hide in the closest and that's what she did.  That is why she is here today and I am so thankful for him.  If he wouldn’t have told her that, she might have been gone too,” said 18-year-old Nikole Pope.

It was advice from 44-year-old Curtis Goodwin that 18-year-old Nikole Pope thinks saved her 7-year -old sister Andria's life.

“He's a very strong willed person and I know he did not go down without a fight.  I know he fought his hardest,” said Pope.

Goodwin is now fighting for his life.  He remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times early Saturday morning in his home near 39th and Kansas.  His partner and Nikole and Andria’s mother, 35-year-old Suzanne Pope did not survive.

“They really devastated a family,” said Pope.

Family says both Pope and Goodwin worked hard to provide for their families.  They believe Saturday was a robbery gone wrong.  Pope says overnight she went from being a big sister to a mother figure.

“There are a lot of things that I don't know how to do.  I took her shopping yesterday and didn’t know what size she wore, what to get her,” said Pope.

Pope says as hard as it is, she has to stay strong for her little sister.  She knows her mom will help her from above.

“She's here guiding me all the way and holding my hand to make sure me and my sister are going to be okay,” said Pope.

So far no arrests have been made.  If you have any information please call Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP.
