Four Ralston High School students showed up late for school, but for good reason.

They were helping others.

A car wreck took place just in front of their school Tuesday morning, and those boys immediately jumped in to help.

The boys say it was minutes before the school bell rang but without hesitation they ran over to help a lady and her son whose vehicle was hit by another car.

Maron Stevens hugged and thanked the four high school boys who she says came to her rescue.

"We kind of smashed into the median right there and kind of came to rest right here," Stevens said.

Stevens says she was taking her son to school when she was hit by another car at the intersection of Park Drive in Ralston.

“I was really in shock I was shaking, I was crying and these boys came right over and asked if I was ok," Stevens said.

James Haase, Jerico Hill, Anthony Valasquez and Danny Anderson  say there was a chance they could be late for class but decided helped out anyway.

“We just seen someone get rear ended so we ran out there to see if they were ok," Jerico Hill said.

“They immediately started changing my tire that was blown out so I could get out of the road, it was pretty horrific," Stevens said.

"They really took time out of their day to take care of me and my son, and it was amazing to see," Stevens continued.

Stevens says the other car smashed into her son's door trapping him inside of the car, and the boys got him out.

“She had to get to work and her son had to get to school," Hill said.

After helping Stevens the teenagers say they walked into school and were quickly confronted for being tardy.

“They're response; they just held up their hands, they were like Mr. P," said Assistant Principal Ryan Pivonka.

"So I see their hands are all covered in motor oil, and they got dirt all over their hands and arms and they tell me this wonderful story," Pivonka contined.

" I felt like I was going to be in trouble for being late but it was definitely worth helping out another civilian," said James Hasse.

Stevens says her car suffered more than ten thousand dollars in damages and is totaled.

She says because the students changed her tire she was able to at least drive it home.
