Police say they safely took a man armed with a rifle into custody Friday morning in Bellevue.

According to the Bellevue Police Department, officers responding to a call about a man armed with a gun at an apartment complex near 29th Avenue and S. Crawford Street say they heard shots fired and later found Zachary Fischer, 26, with a .22 caliber rifle.

Police say they set up a two-block perimeter to search for other suspects because of information from Fischer, but it turned out to be false.

“Officers believe the use of illegal drugs is a factor in this investigation,” a spokesperson for the Bellevue Police Department said in a prepared statement.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol and La Vista Police Department helped with the search.

No injuries were reported.

Fischer faces charges of terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, false reporting and discharging a firearm in city limits.
