Officials with Westside High School said that a student has been diagnosed with mumps.

A public health investigation revealed that some students there may have been exposed to the student with mumps.

Mumps is a contagious disease that is caused by a virus that is preventable by vaccination with the MMR vaccine.

Only people who had close contact with this student between May 20th through May 23rd are at risk for developing it.

Schools officials added that privacy laws are preventing them from identifying the student.

"A small portion of vaccinated persons may lose immunity to mumps and may still become infected, as was the case with this student, officials said.
