Whether it is in the hallway or somewhere else, the South High Dance Team, aka the Luvabulls, practice wherever they can.

“You have to work in different spaces and adapt all the time,” said Senior Luvabull Sahsha Lovermi.

A lot of the time Coach Halley Taylor’s English classroom doubles as a dance studio.

Taylor inherited the dance team in 2012.

“I can say it has been a huge change since my freshman year,” said Senior Anna Farnsworth.

Since Taylor took over the team practices more, volunteers in the community and most recently got some national attention.

“We were actually seen while performing for a basketball game at states and then they contacted our coach asking her if we could go to New Orleans," said Senior Bianca Garcia.

On New Year’s Day, the team of 18 will be performing with other high school dancers in front of 75,000 fans during the Allstate Sugar Bowl Halftime Show.

“I didn't believe it would actually happen and we'd be here today practicing the dance, getting ready to go to New Orleans,” said Lovermi.

But, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes with a hefty price tag.

“It is $33,000 for all of us to go,” said Coach Halley Taylor.

Taylor says the generosity of the community has helped the team raise all but $6000.

“It’s amazing, but it is also terrifying because while it's a tiny number in comparison to what we had to raise, it is still a very hard number,” said Taylor.

Taylor says for many of her girls this will be their first time flying.

“There are a lot of “have nots” here.  I think this is an opportunity that we can take advantage of and get behind them to support them to go and to travel and to have that experience that isn't guaranteed,” said Taylor.

The team has until the end of the month to raise the funds.  Taylor has no doubt the Luvabulls’ hard work will pay off.  If you would like to donate the team has a GoFundMe page set up here https://www.gofundme.com/t56hhfqc

The Luvabulls will also be hosting a pancake feed and a fundraiser on December 10th at South High from 5pm-7:15pm.
