Murder and attempted murder are just some of the allegations to be revealed in a federal indictment Friday.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska Deborah Gilg says she plans to release a 15-count indictment against major Omaha gang members, which was the result of a three-year federal and local investigation, at a press conference Friday.

“The individuals indicted, and others, were engaged in criminal activity including, but not limited to drug distribution, witness tampering, and acts of violence involving assault, murder and attempted murder,” Gilg said in a prepared statement Thursday.

The indictment comes under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, also known as RICO Act, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“This was an intensive investigation involving individuals responsible for substantial violent crime activities in Northeast Omaha. The innovative use of RICO statutes, originally utilized to dismantle the Mafia in the 1970s, is instrumental in this case to address this violent criminal behavior,” Gilg added.

The Omaha Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation, which will be prosecuted by attorneys with U.S. Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice, Organized Crime and Gang Section of the Criminal Division.

KMTV will learn the names of those indicted and the details of the investigation at Friday’s news conference.
