The Benson neighborhood near 65th and Sprague could feel the explosion for miles. Neighbors said it was heartbreaking to see the damage left behind.

“The house all of a sudden just shook like somebody ran into it,” said Laird Scott.

“ I was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden my front door just went boom, but the pressure, the pressure, and then all of a sudden a hear BOOM,” said Linda Dunn.

“You felt it shake the entire neighborhood, the sound of it you’d think it was a firework or something, but then you felt it and you knew it was an explosion,” said Mercedes Nelson.

Parts of the house started to fall in the area.

“You looked up in the air and it looked like confetti coming down, which was wood, and glass, and insulation,” said Scott.

Many quickly ran to see what happen and saw a tragic scene.

“I went down to see what was going on and the house was completely gone, it was gone, the houses around it blown in,” said Nelson.

Firefighter were checking on the area that was west of the explosion. For a period of time they evacuated part of the street when there was a chance for a secondary explosion.
