A man released from jail last month after charges were dropped in a murder case is behind bars again for the murder of a woman last week.
The arrest is made just two days after police release the surveillance video of the car suspected in Barbara Williams’ murder.
Michael Goynes, 22, is arrested for 1st degree murder. He did face a judge Monday afternoon, but it was for a previous driving under suspension violation.
On April 25th police say Goynes drove a white Kia Optima, got out of the car, and started firing shots outside of the Lindenwood Court Apartments at 48th & Boyd St. Williams, 55, was struck and died at the scene. Police say she was an innocent bystander. A man was grazed by shrapnel.
Goynes was release from jail earlier this year when a 2015 murder charge was dismissed because the Douglas County Attorney’s Office says witnesses wouldn’t testify.
Williams' son says prosecutors can't let him go this time.
"If you're going to prosecute him and you got everything on him make sure you hit him hard so he can't do this again," said William Jones, Barbara’s son.
Goynes served about 2 1/2 years in prison for theft and gun possession and was released in 2013. Since being released from prison Goynes has had a total of 4 felonies dismissed, three for gun possession and a first degree murder charge.
After court on Monday his mother told KMTV that he's innocent, he wasn't there, and he drives a blue car. She says he's being targeted because of his affiliation with gangs.
Goynes will likely be formally charged with murder within the coming days.
County Attorney Don Kleine wasn't available for comment Thursday afternoon.
