The mother of an alleged victim of a man accused of sexually abusing children at two different day cares says she asked that her daughter not be around him.

Mark Mays, 24, is behind bars after a judge set his bond at $2 million.

He is accused of sexually assaulting multiple children at two area day cares where he worked.

A mother of one of the alleged victims asked to remain anonymous, but said in an off-camera interview that she had a bad feeling about May when she first enrolled her daughter at La Petite Academy on 108th Street, near W. Maple Road.

She said after she saw a red flag when Mays failed to introduce himself to her, she asked the day care's director not have her daughter around him while she was unclothed.

Her daughter was no longer attending the day care by the time she learned what had happened, she said.

Last Friday, she got a call from the managing director to say a detective wanted to speak with her, she recalled.

That’s when the detective told her Mays had admitted to inappropriately touching her daughter, she said.

She says it’s been a difficult time for her and the family, adding that it will be hard to trust anyone with her children.
