Omaha PD officials are investigating a case that involved a 51-year-old man who killed himself in front of an officer on F Street earlier Saturday afternoon.

According to OPD, at around 12:06 p.m., they were dispatched to a report of a suspicious black Tahoe that was occupied by a white male parked in the 5600 block of F Street.

The Officer arrived in the area and observed a white male standing next to a black Chevy Tahoe behind the building at 5509 F Street.

The man was later identified as 51-year-old Jerome P. Bonnett Jr.

Authorities say when their officer drove up to the vehicle, Bonnett was outside of his vehicle on the passenger side.

As the officer got out of his vehicle, Bonnett shot himself in the head.

OFD medics were also called to the scene and transported Bonnett to Nebraska Medicine.

Bonnett was pronounced dead at the hospital.

OPD's officer-involved investigation team is investigating this incident.

Officials said that part of the incident was recorded on police cruiser video.

The video evidence verifies the timeline of events that took place and is consistent with the statements given by the responding officer.

Officials are calling this incident an in-custody death because an officer was present.

Per state law, a Grand Jury will be convened to investigate this incident.
