A man accused of driving drunk and causing a crash that left a woman dead has bonded out of jail.

According to court records, Eswin Mejia, 19, paid the required 10 percent of the $50,000 bond set by a judge last week.

Prosecutors said Mejia was street racing with a 0.241 blood alcohol content when he crashed into 21-year-old Sarah Root’s SUV.

She went to the hospital with serious injuries and later died.

At a vigil Sunday, Root’s father, Scott Root, was upset by the low bond.

“And find it very upsetting that the cost of a bond proved less than the cost of her funeral,” he said.

Mejia has another court hearing scheduled later this month.
