Light flurries began to fall Friday morning in Southwest Omaha, and more is on its way.

City of Omaha crews started gearing up earlier this week to prep for the snow.

Mayor Jean Stothert says city crews report in at noon, working 12 hour on/off shifts for 24 hours until the roads are cleared. They're not pre-treating the roads since they're so warm.

"We are ready and the public works department has been testing out our vehicles, the city has 100 different vehicles that we own that will be out on the road. We have approved contracts for all of our private contractors all ready. there's 18 of them this year that will be doing the residential areas. We have the equipment we have the brine we have the materials that we need. And we're ready to go," Stothert said.

KMTV's weather team predicts rain to develop late this morning, mixing with snow in the afternoon. Rain will change to snow by 4p.m. Heavy snow is likely from 4pm to 7pm, impacting the evening commute. Snow accumulations may only be around an inch on the southwest side of the metro with over 3 inches on the northeast side. Heaviest snow looks to be northeast of Omaha.
