A new map could play a key role in both a city's flood preparation. and its fight with a federal agency.

The Iowa flood center created a new flood map for Red Oak.

The city sits east of the east Nishnabotna River.

It’s caused flooding problems in several years past for both Red Oak and Shenandoah.

State officials hope the new map will prepare area leaders for potential problems down the road.

Red Oak leaders hope to use it in their battle with FEMA, which changed much of the city to inside the flood plain in 2014.
