An animal rescue organization needs your help. Someone found a dog hit by a car and took it to the Harrison County Humane society.

The brown-eyed, terrier mix is Maggie, and she currently has a giant red cast on her leg.

“She was two fractures in the one leg and her pelvis was fractured,” said Brittany McDunn who is vice-president of the Harrison County Humane Society.

A young girl found the dog in the snow on Monday in Little Sioux, and a man helped rescue her and bring her to the Humane Society.

“A nice gentleman on Facebook said, ‘I have four wheel drive and I’ll head on over’ and it was awesome, very awesome,” said President of the Harrison County Humane Society, Christina Dickinson.

Maggie is currently at Willow Park Veterinary Clinic but she needs a specialist to look at her leg.

“He has limited surgical suites and limited tools; he actually referred to an orthopedic surgeon in Omaha,” said McDunn.

While the Humane Society looks for her owners, they are faced with paying Maggie’s medical bills which can cost thousands of dollars.

So they are asking for donations to help pay for Maggie’s surgery, so far they have raised $2,600 in one day.

“We are not 100% how much it will cost, but best estimate is about $4,000, so we are so close,” said McDunn.

They are hopeful they can get Maggie the treatment she needs and eventually find her the perfect home.

If you would like to donate you can find the Pay Pal link in the Facebook page here.
