After winter weather postponed the annual Holiday Lights Festival in downtown Omaha on Thursday, hundreds still showed up to the Gene Leahy Mall for the lighting event Saturday night.

“Tonight is the night we light the lights all through the mall and downtown Omaha,” said Emily Peklo who is with the festival.

Before the Mayor flipped the switch, people lined up to grab a favorite of everyone's, the hot chocolate.

ConAgra passed out the complimentary cups, along with "Shine the Light on Hunger" candles.

Then after a quick message from Star 104.1 and the Mayor, the countdown began, and hundreds of trees in downtown Omaha light up.

“It’s very special, it’s very emotional, it’s just so wonderful so many people are they are so excited, it’s just beautiful,” said one mother who took her kids to see the lights.

All were glad the event was pushed back to Saturday after weather canceled the Thursday’s event.

“I probably would have skipped for the first time on Thursday, so I was hoping they would postpone it,” said Tara Stankus.

The lights will stay on every night until January 3rd.
