A man faces multiple charges after authorities say he shot at deputies and shot and killed a police dog during an extended standoff in an Omaha neighborhood.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Mark L’Heureux fired the shots during an extended standoff that began on Friday when deputies tried to serve a mental health order.
During the standoff a police dog with the Omaha Police Department, Kubus, was killed.

Gunfire from L’Heureux also hit the shield of one of the deputies. Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler says the shield was hit twice.
Officials say the standoff lasted nearly 26 hours before L’Heureux surrendered. He faces the following charges:
- 3 counts of attempted first-degree homicide
- 4 counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony
- 1 count of harassment of a police animal
