The family of 22-year-old Jarrell Haynes is heartbroken after he was shot and killed Wednesday.
“My heart is torn up, that was my baby,” said Jewell Shields, who is Haynes’ aunt, but is more like his mother after raising him since he was born.
“It’s so hard, really hard he was such a good boy, and giving,” she said.
The family says loosing Haynes is a hard pill to swallow.
“He was a loving kid, he was just loving, and if anyone got to know him they would never bring any harm to him.”
Shields said Haynes went to court early Wednesday morning for their cousin’s killer’s double murder trial.
Police said that Haynes was at the courthouse but could not get into Charles Trotter’s trial because he did not have I.D. When Haynes was leaving he got into some type of altercation with someone who was at the courthouse for another trail. When Haynes came back home around 10, he went to smoke on the porch and that is when someone shot him.
“They know they broke my heart by taking him away from us, and it’s so sad,” said Shields
Haynes’ father was also killed in a shooting almost two years ago. Shields said it’s hard to keep losing the men in their family, “I’m so angry, they keep snatching the male seed out of my family, they keep taking stuff away from us and that makes you angry.”
Bullet holes still riddle the house where Haynes grandmother lives, no one else inside the home was hurt, just a family left grieving a life taken too soon.
“I hope my son knows that we love him and we are going to miss him so much,” said Shields.
