OMAHA, Neb (KMTV)-- There are many indicators of an abusive relationship, but there are more ways to get help.

"Anytime that there's strangulation involved, anytime there's death threats involved. Those are huge, huge indicators, and that's when you want to involve law enforcement," said Anne Boatright, coordinator of the SANE program at Methodist Hospital.

Methodist Hospital is the only forensic nurse examiner program in the state of Nebraska that sees all patients of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

"We're not here to tell anybody that they should leave, or that they should do something better. Only that patient can know what they need, and how we can help them," Boatright said.

The hospital has seen an increase in the number of patients seeking help.

Detective Chris LeGrow works closely with victims of domestic violence. Detective LeGrow said when a victim chooses to leave; police can make sure you retrieve personal items safety.

"There are opportunities where the Omaha police can meet you at your house or apartment to retrieve your property,” Detective LeGrow said. ”Anything that can be considered joint property, that's going to have to be taken care of civilly. The police cannot really get into that.”
