Restricted access zone near Tekamah to be reduced, some can return home

UPDATE (4:35 p.m.): Magellan officials have released this following statement:

Magellan representatives are continuing repairs on the affected section of our anhydrous ammonia pipeline system near Hwy 75 and County Road P in Burt County, NE. While the repairs are not complete, air quality readings in the area are continuing to improve. The restricted access zone is being reduced to a two-mile radius and residents outside this zone are allowed to return to their homes this evening. Highway 75 and County Road P remain closed at this time.

Crews are working to fix the ammonia pipeline leak that caused the death of a Nebraska farmer.

59-year-old Phil Henning died after driving through the vapors Monday night.

The leak Is also keeping dozens from their home.

More than 40 people are staying at nearby hotels.
