Growing pains at the Council Bluffs police headquarters have city council members debating a major ballot issue.
The police department said it has run out of room at it's current location and the solution is to build a bigger building.
The Council Bluffs city council met for over 3 hours during a study session along with their regular city council meeting discussing the police department headquarter bond issue.
Some members thought that there should have been a design and a place picked out for the building before voting on the potential 20-million dollar bond.
Police chief Tim Carmody said now is the time to construct a new building because bond rates are low and are projected to rise.
The vote was 3-2 with council members Nate Watson and Al Ringgenberg voting to oppose the measure.
Three different sites were recommended during the study session.
While the measure did pass, there's still a question on if the bond issue will be on a special election on May 3rd or on the primary ballot on June 7th.
