Hundreds of families will now have turkey on the table this Thanksgiving holiday because of the generosity of others.

Catholic Charities gave away more than 100 turkeys Monday at its annual giveaway.

Frederick Deal already has big plans for his turkey.

"I plan on devouring it. But I'm going to bake it, have a lot of biscuits and butter and everything with it and the dressing and everything and hopefully an oyster dressing," said Deal.

He loaded his cart with turkey, fixings, carrots, rolls and potatoes.

"I think it's great for the community, especially for the senior citizens," he said.

Organizers started the day early.

"Today, we're going to give out 150 turkeys and dinners for Thanksgiving. And what it is first come, first served. We start at 10 this morning," said Carrie Walter, with Catholic Charities.

But some got up even earlier. The first person in line arrived at 6:45 a.m.

Deal followed suit by getting in line about an hour later. He plans to pay it forward with neighbors.

“When I cook all this, I'm going to share it with them," he said.

Catholic Charities did a similar giveaway at the Juan Diego Center in south Omaha, handing out 250 turkeys.
