Today many people are honoring the men and women who served this country on this Veterans Day.
One student went out of his way to show what their service means to him. Today in Bellevue, two Air Force airmen received a surprise just when they needed it most. Reporter Shawnte Passmore has the story.
Thank you is what 8th grader Clayton Raush wants to say to these active airmen and their families. "Soldiers Wish is a charitable organization that helps veterans of our military when they need some help to tackle everyday problems."
Airman Sami Casillas' family is expecting a child. But his wife's been in and out of the hospital for health reasons creating a financial burden. "I'm excited beyond -- just humbled. No words can explain just what's going just in this season with my family."
After mass at St. Matthew School, Raush and Soldier's Wish presented some much needed baby items and a thousand-dollar check. To his left another airman and his family received help. "The other one has four children, two boys and two girls so we're going to help them with buying winter clothes for tomorrow." They also received a two thousand dollar check. Airman Zackery Durossette said "It very much eases the burden. Not do we only have bills here. But we also own a house in South Dakota that we still pay -- we're trying to sell so it helps us out a lot. We didn't know what we were going to do this Christmas."
So what would make this young person go out of his way to help? He's familiar with their story. "It's really personal because when my grandpa is a veteran you got to help them out."
