The city has a tight leash on pit bulls but over the last two years, that breed hasn't topped the list for number of attacks. So we wanted to see over the last two years, which dogs posed the most threat. Over the last two years, reports of labs biting are up by 20.
The Nebraska Humane Society says it comes down to the number of labs out there. Mark Langan with the Nebraska Humane Society says, "There's a lot of labs in Omaha, across the country, it's one of the most popular breeds to own are labs. So anytime you have a large number of dogs you're going to have a large number of bites."
Even with the high number of bites from labradors, the city only restricts pit bull owners. In 2008 the city passed an ordinance forcing owners to carry $100,000 liability insurance and must have the dog muzzled when out of a fenced yard. In 20-12, pit bulls didn't make the top of the list.
