Mother and Infant Critically Injured in Apartment Fire
Firefighters struggle to save injured
Firefighters carefully climb down the ladder after rescuing a mother and her two month old. Getting inside wasn't easy. Omaha Assistant Fire Cheif, Dan Stolinski says, "When crews arrived they saw smoke showing from the windows of this apartment. They had a difficult time getting into the apartment so they made access through the window."
Inside firefighters found the mother and baby unresponsive. They pulled the two down to medics, who took both to trauma centers. Firefighters kept most of the damage to the one apartment, but the entire building was evacuated. Residents told Action 3 News management went door to door making sure everyone got out safe. The baby is expected to be ok.
The mother is expected to be hospitalized for a couple days for smoke inhalation.
