It's officials, Mark Evans has been named the new superintendent for the OPS district.

"We really are looking to someone that's gonna take us a little further than where we already are."

We met Evans last week during his visit to Omaha.

He made his pitch to hundreds of parents and teachers at a meet and greet, saying he was ready to take Omaha's school district to the next level.

"Demographics are similar with about 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 of ethnic makeup, so I saw a whole lot of similarity and very similar to a lot of work I did there to make a difference."

Something the school board wanted to hear.

"We believe Mark is the person to take us to that next level."

They say Evans is a leader and he's familiar with OPS practices making him the best fit for the Omaha community.

"The academic achievement growth that we've seen the evaluation programs he talks about with staff his work with his boards those are the things we looked at with all of them."
