Omaha, NE - In the heated battle between Bob Kerrey and Deb Fischer, a well-known Nebraska Republican is endorsing Democrat Bob Kerrey.

"And that's why I'm here today to support Bob Kerrey for United States Senate. Nebraskans deserve this kind of quality leadership," said Hagel, a former U.S. Senator.

Hagel says Kerrey will bring bi-partisanship to Congress, something America needs to fix its problems and the only way he says, our democracy will work.

"He's a leader, a government leader, he's an educator,  and maybe what overrides it all, he was shaped by the values of this state. He was shaped by Nebraska," said Hagel.

In the Omaha World Herald's most recent poll, Kerrey trailed Fischer by only three points.

In Lincoln, Fischer and Governor Dave Heineman responded to Hagel's endorsement with nonchalance.

Heineman acknowledged the key Republican endorsements Fischer already has,
"Chuck Hagel hasn't been registered to vote in Nebraska for the last couple of years, so here it is we got five votes for Fischer, Kerrey's got zero."
