Lincoln, NE - The two candidates for U-S Senate debated one final time before the November election.

The Republican Fischer touted her plan to balance the budget, " The Fischer plan is a jobs plan to allow small businesses to grow and create jobs.  The Fischer plan creates jobs so people can take care of their families. "

Democrat Kerrey responded, "That's the Fischer slogan. The Fischer plan says no tax increase including people over one million dollars.  The balanced budget she has in mind that's one trillion in cuts. It will increase employment in Nebraska by 50 percent. "

On N-E-T T-TV, the two candidates also sparred over health care, with Fischer saying the National Health Care Law is not good policy that will see people lose their employer insurance.  Kerrey countered that Fischer wants to spend an additional $700 Billion on Medicare and that would make Medicare insolvent in 2016, rather than 2024.

At one point, the candidates were allowed to ask each other a question.  Kerrey asked Fischer how she would cut one trillion dollars in spending while Fischer asked the former Senator why he voted against welfare reform back in the 1990s.

Both candidates declared victory after the debate.
