Omaha, NE – Term limits forced Nebraska’s longest-serving state senator out of the legislature. But after sitting out for four years, Ernie Chambers will once again represent District 11.

Even after his landslide victory Tuesday night over incumbent Brenda Council, Chambers had nothing to say. But his colleagues do.
Nebraska State Senator Brad Ashford says, “He can be intimidating but at the same time he knows what he’s talking about.”
Chambers is Nebraska’s longest-serving state senator with 38 years. Senator Ashford says Chambers knows the law in and out.
"I think there's going to be some concern about certain pet projects, bills, or initiatives that a particular senator may have,” says Ashford. Chambers’ supporters say he’s done so much for their community like blocking laws that favored special groups over people.
Opponents say Council was more in-tune with people in District 11.
Ashford calls both Chambers and Council, two of north Omaha’s most significant leaders. He wishes they could work together.
“Together Senator Council and Senator Chambers would be impossible to ignore,” says Ashford.
