Vehicular Homicide Suspect Christopher Phelps Speaks Out
He went before a judge this morning to face two charges of vehicular homicide.
Omaha, NE – Investigators say Christopher Phelps was more than twice the legal limit to drive. This morning he went before a judge to face two charges of vehicular homicide.
The judge ordered Phelps be held on a $500,000 bond.
Christopher Phelps describes it as a tragedy. Police say Phelps was driving drunk when he flipped his SUV killing two young girls Mela and Laela Torry. The morning of the crash he was asked to take a blood test but he refused.
“I don't like needles they didn't ask me to do anything else and I don't like needles,” says Phelps.
Phelps says he realized the girls had died when someone showed him a news report in jail. His attorney told him not to describe his reaction when he found out.
“At no point at any time or day do I have any animosity towards Chanelle Torry,” says Phelps.
He says he was seeing Torry for about a year. They both had similar interested and helped each other out. He says he loves kids and has three of his own.
The night before the crash he says he was a lodge meeting and drank socially.
“I had a beer here and I had a beer there. I wasn’t drinking heavily. This is a tragedy all the way around regardless of how it started and how it ended,” says Phelps.
