Lincoln Police Investigate Hate Crime
Lincoln, NE – Three masked men attacked a 33-year-old woman, tied her up and tried to set her house on fire. Lincoln Police are calling it a hate crime.
Raymond Strozier is sickened to hear his neighbor was violently attacked. He says he heard noises outside Sunday morning after 12 pm.
Strozier says he went out to check and didn't see anything. He went to bed. As he got up to take his daughter out he was shocked at what he saw. His neighbor crawled out of her home covered in blood and ran across the street to call 9-1-1.
Police say the woman was assaulted, tied up with zip ties by three masked men. Her body was carved with a knife with homophobic slurs. Police found more slurs sprayed inside the house. The suspects poured gas inside and lit a match but Police say the fire burned itself out.
Chris Pedersen describes her neighbor as kind and friendly. She says the victim helped her shovel snow, mow her lawn and carry groceries.
