2-Year-Old With Leukemia Gets Big-Time Support

Posted:

Omaha, NE - A fundraiser for a two-year-old boy with leukemia attracts dozens of people.  Some family and friends came to the event. Most however, showed up to help out a boy they've never met.

Reaching; wanting more than anything to play with the other children at his fundraiser, Christian Dexter unfortunately is not allowed. The two-year-old's just a few months into his battle with leukemia and can't risk getting sick. "He has lots of cousins they all want to see him and play with him but we'll have to wait a little while for that," said mother, Janelle Dexter.

The boy's parents are thankful for the help. "That's kind of how our life has been lately, kind of uncertain.  But the one thing that has stayed constant is just everybody's support," said father, Brad Dexter.

Three months ago, a rash sent Christian to the hospital. That same night, he was diagnosed with cancer. "He was given blood within a couple hours of being admitted and chemotherapy and we know that's what saved his life. He needed blood," said grandmother, Nancy Kamrath.

Christian's family wanted the Red Cross to be a part of their fundraiser. Since Christian has gotten numerous blood transfusions in the last few months, they urge others to donate blood as well. The family's call for action is heard.  We spotted several people donating for Christian's cause.  "You don't ever think that's going to be someone in your family and here he is, not even 3-years-old, totally helpless," said relative, Jean Kamrath.

Christian will have to be treated for leukemia for at least the next three years. He turns three-years-old next month.
