Travelers Stay Close to Home

Posted:

Omaha, NE -- Even with gas prices roughly a buck lower compared to the this time last year, it's expected many people will cut back on summer travel.  It means a lot more people living in Omaha, will be staying right here in Omaha.

Where you go might be where you're at.  Some by choice, others by budget.

"Absolutely it's getting expensive. That's why a zoo pass is perfect, you know it's nice and cheap." James Driscoll, Tekamah, Nebraska.

"The museums and the zoo. There is a lot of stuff to come over and have fun here in Omaha." Miguel Garza, Omaha.

For some families, experts says, this might be the year they check out the attractions in their own backyard.  With gas prices again on the rise and airlines predicting fourteen million fewer passengers, it's easy to find people concerned.

"It does bother me because you got other things to pay for like a house payment and kids." Richard Larson, Overland Park, Kansas.

"Well I don't like it but I would say that I am worried about it," Doug Grimm, Hiawatha, Kansas.

Even though many people chose not to fly around the globe because of the recession, now might be the best time to fly. Experts says you can now find some of the best deals, and we found some people here taking advantage of them.

"Where thinking about doing a family vacation around the end of July," Steve Auxier, Lincoln.

No doubt people will continue to travel.  How far and where is still being argued by the professional speculators.
