Illegal Immigration Protestors Rally In Front Of Church

Posted:

Omaha, NE - Drivers honked their horns and gave thumbs up and down to a group of people protesting in front of a church near 70th and Cass streets. They call themselves NAG  or Nebraskans Advisory Group. They are not happy about an immigration education event going on inside First United Methodist Church.  "I think a lot of churches advocate services for illegal aliens," said a protester.  The event inside the church is sponsored by First United Methodist and a group called Justice For Our Neighbors.

The organizer of the immigration symposium was baffled by the protest.  "Actually they should have joined us, because what we're promoting is hospitality and compassion," said organizer Christy Nicolaison.  She said the symposium dealt mainly with destroying stereotypes associated with immigrants.  Nicolaison was asked if the church and JFON are aiding illegal aliens.  She said "no."

When protestors found out that the event organizer wished they would have come inside they were surprised.  They found out after the event but NAG protestor Susan Smith says it's still not to late to talk.  "We'll get up with them and hopefully we can have a community discussion," said Smith.
