Millard Days Parade and Carnival

MILLARD DAYS, AUGUST 19 - 24, 2014 Fifty-one years of tradition and fun continue August 19th through 24th when Millard Days fills Andersen Park and downtown Millard with a six-day celebration. Millard Days is a time of celebrating the Millard area heritage and raising funds for community service projects. This year’s activities include the DC Lynch Carnival, a traditional Parade, a Horseshoe Tournament, a Car Show, a Family Activity Tent, a Poker Run, and an Entertainment Tent / Beer Garden with bands performing Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Millard Days Events: The DC Lynch Carnival opens on Tuesday and continues through Sunday with games and rides. The Entertainment tent and beer garden is open Wednesday night through Saturday night. The Entertainment tent will host live music from Beatles & More… on Thursday night, the Jason Earl Band on Friday night, and the Grease Band on Saturday night. Beatles & More… is a Beatles tribute band, but also plays other hits from the 60s and 70s. The Jason Earl Band plays country and rock while The Grease Band plays the “oldies” and is a Millard Days favorite. The 2nd annual Millard Days’ Poker Run will be held on Saturday starting at Werner Cycle Works (14507 Frontier Road) and ending at the Entertainment tent. The run consist of a 100-mile course with three stops. Cash prizes will be awarded for best and worst hands. All vehicles are welcomed. Registration is at Werner Cycle Works from 11 AM to 1:30 PM. Saturday’s Parade is a longtime tradition. The parade kicks off at 11 AM and starts at 132nd Street and Millard Avenue and travels west to P Street and Millard Avenue. The parade features bands, clowns, dance clubs, Shrine entries, fire trucks, classic vehicles and non-profit organizations and more. Millard Days Parade Grand Marshals: This year's Grand Marshals are Cy and Bill Schmieding. Cy moved to the Millard area in 1967 while Bill moved to the area in 1969. Cy is married to Velva and they have three children and three stepchildren and 15 grandchildren; most of which lives in the Millard area. Bill is married to Pat and they have two grown children: Jaymie and Scott and one grandchild Will. Jaymie and Scott both graduated from Millard South High School. Jaymie lives in Denver with her husband John and Scott lives in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. Cy and Bill starting working at Millard Electric in the late 1960s. In 1987, Cy and Bill joined with a few co-workers and purchased Millard Electric from Harry Andersen. After many successful years, Cy and Bill retired from Millard Electric and sold out to their current partners. Cy was with Millard Electric for 33 years and retired in 2001. Bill had 44 years with Millard Electric and retired in 2013. Cy and Bill have been avid supporters of Millard Days since the early 1980s. Sunday’s Events: Sunday’s activities start at 10 AM with the annual Car Show at Hobby Lobby’s Parking Lot (13780 Millard Avenue). The Car Show runs until 3 PM on Sunday and is hosted by Performance Ford. The annual Horseshoe Tournament begins at 11 AM and is sponsored by Reliable Auto Repair. Registration for the Horseshoe tournament is at 10 AM. The Family Activity Tent is open from 12 Noon to 3 PM. The Family Activity Tent includes free crafts and activities for the children: Face Painting and Balloon Animals at 12 Noon, the 4th Annual Tractor Pedal Pull at 1:30 PM with registration at 1 PM, and a FREE Ice Cream social at 3 PM.
