“Underwood-United and Unique” Celebrate July 4th in Underwood The theme for Underwood’s 61st annual July 4th celebration will be “Underwood-United and Unique” for the single day celebration that will held in Underwood on Friday, July 4, 2014. Further information can be found on-line at on the July 4th page. 4th Annual State Farm (by Judd Knipsel Agency) Runderwood 5K Walk/Run will start things off at 7:00 am. Participants are encouraged to sign-up before race day. Register on-line at or download registration form and mail in. $30 with shirt for adults if registered by June 25; or $35 race day w/no shirt guarantee. Runderwood will start on the street east of UMBA Hall. Registration will be from 6:30-7:00 am with race beginning at 7:00 am. From 7 to 10 am there will be a Pancake Breakfast by the Post Prom Committee and the Beer Garden will be serving bloody marys and beer all occurring south of UMBA Hall in the two pavilions. The 61st annual parade with the theme “Underwood-United and Unique” will begin at 10:30 am. Check-in by 10:00 am at Old Middle School Lot (by Buses). The Pottawattamie County Corn Growers Assoc. are heading up the organization of the parade. They will use the same route as last year which is posted on-line: Immediately after the parade events will continue with a carnival/fairway with interactive games, games with prizes, water games and inflatables by UMBA Hall. These will be operated by the Girl Scouts, Color Guard, Dance Team & High School Volley Ball team. At 12 pm the Dodge Ball Tournament will begin by the J.O.O.I. High School Youth Group on basketball court behind UMBA Hall. Information is posted on-line at This year there will be two age divisions: 13 & under and 14 & above with six person teams (any gender) and $30 per team with pre-registration due by June 30. Maximum of 16 teams. Contact Beth Gunderson 712-545-3068 or e-mail to register. At 4 pm, back by popular demand, is the Bean Bag Tournament on the basketball court behind UMBA Hall. Information is posted on-line at There will be two person teams, any gender, any age with a maximum of 16 teams. Cost is $20 per team and you can register 2-4 pm at the court. Contact Reggie Ross 515-238-0951 or e-mail: for more information or pre-registration. The Beer Garden will be serving ice cold beer and the popular margaritas beginning at 11 am. Immediately after the parade the Food Stand inside UMBA Hall will be serving their delicious food and drinks all day including lunch and supper/dinner. Also immediately after the parade inside UMBA Hall the popular game of Bingo will begin (and go until 6 pm) along with the Silent Auction by the Girl Scouts with bidding closing at 3 pm. At 7 pm there will be blue grass music entertainment (free admission) inside UMBA Hall by “The Dirty River Ramblers” until 8 pm. Andy Dofner, formally from Underwood, is part of the band. Beginning at 8 pm until 10 pm there will be a free Teen Street Dance north of UMBA. Then the grand finale will be the 61st annual Fireworks show that will begin at 10:00 pm southeast of UMBA Hall. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the show to close out the 4th in Underwood.
