Douglas County Historical Society Lunch and Learn Lecture

  • Print

The Douglas County Historical Society will be welcoming writer Jonny McNee from Northern Ireland for a Lunch and Learn lecture. McNee will be speaking about his experiences finding and excavating a WWII P8074 Spitfire, which crashed into a County Donegal mountain in Northern Ireland and became buried in the peat. The Nebraska native pilot escaped the plane before it crashed, and his story along with an account of the excavation was featured on BBC in 2011 before a global audience. McNee will speak about his experiences uncovering the extremely well-preserved aircraft, and we will have a display of artifacts from the excavation provided by the Strategic Air and Space Museum! There will also be copies of McNee's book, The Story of the Donegal Spitfire for sale at $15 per book Lunch is available for purchase at the Campus Café, or you may bring your own lunch! Cost to participate is free for members, or $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is required by emailing or by calling 402-455-9990.
