World Friendship Day

News release Friendship Force of Greater Omaha will be having a balloon launch from Turner Park, Midtown on March 1st. at 1:00pm, to celebrate “World Friendship Day”. Dignitaries, the public and club members are invited to meet at Brix at Midtown Crossing at 12:30pm to gather the 60 balloons to take to the park to be released. Each balloon represents a member country in the Friendship Force organization. The Mayor has been asked to proclaim March 1st “Omaha Friendship Day“. The balloons will have certificates attached for lunch for 2 friends, wristbands and information about Friendship Force of Greater Omaha. After the launch members and dignitaries will gather at Brix for lunch and sharing friendship. The international Friendship Force organization first celebrated “Friendship Day Around the World” on March 1st, 2005. At that time, March 1st was officially designated as the anniversary date for the entire Friendship Force organization. The selection of March 1st for World Friendship Day is a tribute to founder Wayne Smith and acknowledges the original founding day of the Friendship Force on March 1st, 1977, when it was announced in a White House ceremony by President Jimmy Carter. In 2008 the United States Senate issued a proclamation designating March 1st as “World Friendship Day.”
