Black History Month Celebration of Faith and History

  • Print

Church of the Resurrection moves its Black Histoy Month activities to the Loves Jazz & Arts Center for a talk by Rev. Shannon MacVean–Brown, one of the nation's few female African-American Episcopal priests. She's the former pastor at St. Joseph's and St. Matthew’s, a Detroit parish that shares a similar history with COR. She was the first woman rector of that historic church, which was created through the merger of two congregations, one all black and the other all white. It resides in one of the poorest areas of Detroit. She's currently working on her doctoral dissertation, a study of black women priests titled "The African American Episcopal Women Priest Project." Enjoy free appetizers and a cash bar.
