11th Annual Wear Yellow Ride, Walk & Fun Run

  • Print

Wear Yellow Nebraska will be hosting the 11th Annual Wear Yellow Ride on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Strategic Air & Space Museum, Ashland, Nebraska. The bike tour aims to raise funds and awareness for Wear Yellow Nebraska which is a local grassroots organization fighting against cancer through advocacy, awareness and fundraising. We want to inspire others in the community to take action in our fight. Our mission is to unite Nebraskans in the fight against cancer through advocacy, awareness and fundraising. Distances: Over 500 participants from as far as North Platte, Syracuse, Fremont, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, and the Omaha, Nebraska metro area will choose their course distance with 10, 22, 38, 51 and 62 mile options available (all distances are approximate and may vary up to one half mile). All courses will close at 1pm, please choose a route that you can complete by this allotted time. 10 - 22 - 38 - 51 - 62 - Walk & Fun Run That's right! We know that we have a lot of family members who are not cyclists who come out to the Wear Yellow Ride to support their cycling family member and enjoy the event so we thought we would add an event for those who like to lace up the walking/jogging/running shoes to help their fellow Nebraskans in the fight against cancer. The Fun Run & Walk will follow an approximate 3.5 mile/5K course from the SAC Museum through the Mahoney State Park. A Power stop will be included at the half way point. Registration Dates: The deadline to register for the event is May 4. After this date you will not receive a t-shirt or other promotional event items. Please make sure you get your registration in before this deadline. Day of registrations will also be taken on May 17. Will be having a packet pickup on May 13th in Lincoln, 14 & 15 in Omaha. You will be able to register in person at that time. Bike Raffle! Purchase raffle tickets for our bike raffle prior to the ride, when you register, or purchase online! We are excited to be raffling a brand new fixed gear/singlespeed bike from Sole Bicycle Company, a leader in the fixed gear/singlespeed industry. This limited edition bike's frame is a 56cm which will accommodate riders from 5' 5" to 6' 2" in height. The bike comes ready to ride with pedals, flip flop hub and front brake. Be sure to purchase your raffle tickets for this gem! Tickets will be sold $5 for one or $20 for 5 tickets. Post Ride Event: Riders are encouraged to stick around after the ride for a pancake breakfast by the Pancake Man, our legendary raffle and door prizes! Each rider with a paid registration will have access to the museum following the event. Power-Stops: All rides are on public roads and fully supported with water and food "power" stops. On-Course Support: Provided by The Bike Way, The Bike Rack, and Trek Bicycle Stores. All riders are required to bring and wear a helmet while riding. Proceeds: Proceeds support Wear Yellow Nebraska’s cancer fighting and cancer patient assistance programs such as the Wear Yellow Grant Program and the Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program. The Wear Yellow Cab Ride program is designed to provide a free cab ride to cancer patients receiving treatments. Patients often rely on family and friends to drive them to and from their appointments. Often times family and friends are not available and patients end up skipping their treatments because they do not have a ride. Our new program will fill the gap and provide a ride when needed so that no treatments are missed. The event is slated to begin at 7:00 a.m. Participants can pre-register online or in person the day of the event; however, day of event registrants will not receive an event t-Shirt.
