1 Image 1 Minute

Description:

The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts presents 1 Image 1 Minute, a fast-paced, fascinating community program that challenges participants to present one photograph that’s important to them - and do it in one minute or less. There are only three rules for the event: the presenter must discuss a photograph; the photograph must be one that the presenter did not take; and the presenter may speak, sing or even mime about their photograph - but for not more than 60 seconds. Nebraskans from all walks of life have risen to the challenge with high school and college students, corporate executives, artists, advertising creatives, curators, real estate developers and poets eager to share their photographs in this challenging format. The photographs will be as diverse as the presenters themselves, ranging from images that rank as some of the most important in the art world to those that have been rescued from family albums and have intense emotional significance. It will make everyone in the audience think about which photograph they’d pick themselves and how they would beat the clock to describe it. 1 Image 1 Minute started as a column that Los Angeles-based artist Micol Hebron wrote for X-Tra magazine in 2008, and which was inspired, in turn by a similar project produced by Belgian director Agnès Varda and written about by noted art critic Rosalind Krauss. Varda invited various people in and outside the art world to respond to photographic images for one minute, the results of which she presented on French television in 1983. Since its launch, 1 Image 1 Minute has drawn participants from all walks of life, including such leaders of the contemporary art world as: Leonard Nimoy, Mara McCarthy, Walead Beshty, Martin Kersels, Jeffrey Deitch, Alexandra Grant, Piero Golia, Todd Gray, Stanya Kahn, Karthik Pandian, Jan Tumlir, Marie Jager, Catherine Taft and many, many more. 1 Image 1 Minute is free and open to the public with free event parking in the lot adjacent to the Bemis Center. 1 Image 1 Minute Presenters: Aaron Holz, Amanda Crowley, Anne Muntges, Bart Vargas, Benjamin McQuillan, Brian Downs, Brittan Rosendahl, Caitlin Little, Caoimhe Kilfeather, Christian Christensen, Christina Narwicz, Corinne Wardian, Daniel Ocanto, Debra Christensen, Ellen Struve, Erin Foley, Felicia Webster, Fred Clark, Heather Johnson, Jack Phillips, James Vnuk, Jason Hendrickson, Jed Ellis, Jeff Kutash, Joan Squires, JoAnna LeFlore, Joe Broghammer, John Rogers, Larry Ferguson, Larry Roots, Matt Cronin, Michael Hennings, Mike Krainiak, Paul Smith, Peter Cales, Portia Love, Rich Mansfield, Robert Duncan, Sam Herron, Samantha Bittman, Shannon Marie Carver, Shanti Grumbine, Shea Wilkinson, Stuart Chittenden, Stuart Shell, Symone Sanders, Teal Gardner, Toby Jurovics, Todd Simon, Yinghua Zhu
