Inside and Outside - A Painter in the Social Sphere: A Special Talk with Los Angeles-Based Artist Alexandra Grant
The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is pleased to announce Inside and Outside - A Painter in the Social Sphere, an art talk by Los Angeles-based artist Alexandra Grant on Wednesday, October 9th, at 7:00 PM. Grant explores language in her large-scale works on paper and canvas, and she will talk about her recent work inside and outside the studio as well as the Lena Davis Project, which she is creating through an ongoing partnership with the Polk County Historical Society in eastern NE. This project is based on the theft of a 19th-century tombstone from a rural cemetery in Polk County and Grant's unlikely role in its return. The artist will also discuss her current work collaborating with the French play write and philosopher Hélène Cixous and her transformation of Cixous's book Philippines into two recent exhibitions: Forêt Intérieure/Interior Forest in Los Angeles and Paris where the public was invited to help create a large-scale illustration of the book. Inside and Outside - A Painter in the Social Sphere is free and open to the public. Parking is also free in the lot adjacent to the Bemis Center.
