Donation Drive for Former Foster Youth at "Youth Mart"

Help support former foster youth by donating furniture, household items and clothing to “Youth Mart” during Youth Mart’s Donation Drive on October 12 and 13, 2013. The donation drive takes place on Saturday, October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 13th from noon to 4:00 p.m. During these times furniture, household items and new or gently used clothing will be accepted at the Youth Mart located on the Omaha Home for Boys campus at 4343 N. 52nd Street in Omaha. If you are interested in helping, you can drop off donation items at the donation center during the specified times. The Omaha Home for Boys campus is located on the corner of 52nd and Ames Street. Use the South campus entrance and the donation center is located approximately 200 yards from the entrance. The Independent Living Donation Center known as “Youth Mart” is a donation center for former foster youth ages 16 to 24. This initiative came about from an identified need by former foster youth at the Eastern Service Area Youth Permanency Summit. Youth Mart is made possible by a grant from Nebraska Children and Families Foundation in collaboration with Nebraska Families Collaborative, Child Saving Institute, Project Everlast, Omaha Home for Boys, Lutheran Family Services, Central Plains Center for Services and the community. Examples of items needed include: gently used furniture (no mattresses), household items (such as pots and pans, dishes, lamps, small appliances, etc.), new and gently used baby items (such as clothing, diapers, wipes, etc.), new personal hygiene products, and new or gently used clothing and shoes for adult men and women. New and used items for warehouse organization will also be accepted, including large shelving units, plastic bins, hangers, hanging racks and boxes. The donation center’s kickoff event will be held on November 14, 2013 at Youth Mart located on the Omaha Home for Boys campus. This date marks the opening of Youth Mart to former foster youth ages 16 to 24. More information regarding the November 14th kickoff event will be provided.
