Walmart Still Hiring for Approximately 180 Jobs for New Omaha Walmart Neighborhood Markets
Walmart is still looking to hire approximately 180 associates to work at two new Walmart Neighborhood Markets slated to open this summer in Omaha. The stores will be located at 168th St. and Harrison St. and at 50th St. and L St. According to the 168th St. and Harrison St. store manager Brian Farber, the stores will be hiring both full- and part-time associates. “We are excited to add these new Walmart Neighborhood Markets to Omaha and bring good jobs with great career opportunities to the area,” said Farber. Positions needing fulfillment include pharmacy technicians, bakery and deli associates, customer service representatives, managers, cashiers and overnight stockers. Walmart takes steps to assist its associates with career options in order to best match associates with positions that challenge them professionally and offer growth opportunities. As seen through Jack Smith, a 20-year Navy veteran, who was hired three years ago by Walmart at an Omaha Supercenter and has since advanced to a produce associate at a Walmart Neighborhood Market. “I retired in 2009 and didn’t know what to do. I was so scared of getting out of the military, because you hear the horror stories about guys not getting jobs,” Smith states. “I worked in a supply position when in the military, so I knew I could do this type of job because of the hard work I did in the Navy.” Smith could have put his vast knowledge acquired from the military into a variety of roles within Omaha but chose Walmart to not only better his personal interaction skills but also work alongside his wife and daughter who are Walmart associates. “Walmart took me in and let me know I was able to make it outside the Navy. I love working for Walmart. Getting up in the morning is fun,” Smith continues. Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full- and part-time associates including a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits including health-care coverage with no lifetime maximum. Walmart also offers eligible associates matching 401(k) contributions of up to six percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance. Additionally, eligible associates receive a quarterly incentive based on store performance. The majority of new associates will begin work in June to help prepare the stores for their grand openings. A temporary hiring center for both stores has opened at 11811 I St. in Omaha. Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday–Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
