Description:

Village Pointe® Farmers Market Opens May 4 - Market enters its 8th season at Village Pointe

OMAHA, Neb. (April 29, 2013) –The 2013 Village Pointe Farmers Market will begin May 4 for its eighth season and runs through October 5. The market will be located in a southeast parking area at Village Pointe Shopping Center situated along Burke Street and open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, rain or shine.

With the tagline, “Real food. Real farmers.” Village Pointe Farmers Market features local growers offering a variety of fresh fruit, produce, meats, eggs, bedding plants, cut flowers and other locally produced goods. Produce selections change throughout the market’s span of 23 weeks, reflecting the seasonality of local food production. This year’s market will again include displays from community non-profit groups, culinary artists and master gardeners. Two special celebrations highlight the season, Farmer Appreciation Day in July and Harvest Fest, the end-of-season festival on the first Saturday in October.

“This farmers market affords the consumer the easiest possible access to healthful local, family-farmed produce and meat,” said Michael Braunstein, market founder and executive director ofHeartland Healing Center, a wellness-focused non-profit in Omaha. “This is an all-farmers farmers’ market - not a flea market, art fair or food court,” Braunstein added. “Just real food and real farmers.”

The MCC Institute for the Culinary Arts will again visit the market on several dates (to be announced) during the market season where culinary students will demonstrate cooking techniques and share samples onsite using all-local ingredients from the day’s market.

“Hosting the farmers’ market is one way our center can give back to the community,” said Alicia Peters, general manager for Village Pointe. “We’re thrilled to be entering our eighth season and offering our customers a way to have convenient access to locally grown foods.”

Local growers and non-profit groups who are interested in participating should call at 402.505.9773 for more information.

Occurs weekly: Saturday (8:00 AM to 1:00 PM) [starting May 4, 2013 ending Oct 12, 2013]
