Special Olympics Event in Southwest Iowa
Iowa Western Community College and Special Olympics Iowa, Southwest District, are hosting the Southwest Iowa Basketball Skills Competition on January 29, 2013. The competition among nearly 250 athletes from seven counties in Southwest Iowa will be held at the Kainesville Center on the campus of Iowa Western Community College. Coach Jim Turgeon and the Reivers Women Basketball and Volleyball team members will run the tournament.
Schools and Facilities that will participate include: Council Bluffs Public Schools, Glenwood Resource Center, Heartland Family Services, Harlan Community Schools, IKM Community Schools, Iowa School For the Deaf, Missouri Valley CommunitySchools, Sidney Community Schools, Tri-Center Community Schools, West Harrison Community Schools.
First place winners in the divisions will advance to the Special Olympics Iowa State Basketball Skills competition to be held at theUniversity of Iowa on March 15-16, 2013 which is part of the Special Olympics Iowa Mid Winter Games. The State Winter games were held January 14-16, 2013 in Dubuque, with record numbers of participants of athletes and fans.
Iowa Western Community College invites the entire Southwest Iowa community to come and enjoy the competition. TheKanesville Center is located on the Western edge of the campus, immediately inside the Southwest entrance and just past the Library if coming in from the East.
