Description:

An upcoming art exhibit featuring local Omaha Artist, Courtney Kenny, will be held at the Omaha Jewish Community Center in the JCC Art Gallery. The exhibit opens Jan. 3 and runs through Jan.31. On Jan. 6 there will be an opening reception from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Kenny will give a talk about the inspiration for her exhibit at 2:30 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Kenny’s collection, “Only Human,” will consist of charcoal drawings and oil paintings depicting the ironies and incongruities of our world as well as the aspects of being human that both connect and alienate us. Her recent body of work contains no color and explores the irony of black and white painting and the internal struggle in dealing with the black and white views that pervade society. Kenny, age 22, is an Omaha native and recent college graduate from Bethany College who describes her work as purposefully challenging to the audience through the combined use of literalism, irony and humor. She describes her unique style as Unrealistic Realism. Kenny’s works have been displayed at galleries in Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois and New York. The Jewish Community Center of Omaha is located at 333 South 132nd Street in Omaha. Hours for the Art Gallery are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information about the exhibit you can call the JCC at 402.334.8200.
